The Fred Monument is located across the street from 2763 Quail Road southeast of Chickasha, Oklahoma. This location can be found two miles east of US Highway 81 and one-tenth of a mile south. Strangely enough, Old Fred was not located on what is today called Old Fred Road. According to old-timers, the Fred monument marks the “agreed-upon” location of the Indian Territory village that was born and died at the junction of the Fort Cobb and Chisholm Trails before Oklahoma statehood. “Stories from the Road” finally locates this old hamlet using early survey plats. The video shows the site of Old Fred and its few structures in relation to the modern-day monument.
